Why might a research programme deliberately choose maceration over the faster ultrasound-assisted method? Where the target phytoconstituent is known to be exceptionally heat- or shear-sensitive, or where specialised UAE equipment is unavailable, the simplicity and gentleness of maceration remains a scientifically valid choice despite its longer duration, particularly for exploratory or small-scale academic research.

Is a higher extraction yield always preferable? Not necessarily — a high yield achieved by an aggressive, non-selective extraction protocol may co-extract undesirable matrix components (chlorophyll, waxes, tannin-protein complexes) that complicate downstream purification and can even interfere with subsequent bioassays, so yield must always be interpreted alongside the purity and specific activity of the resulting extract.
